3 months contract with an East London based Local Authority

Job Summary:

The service is at the heart of the governance of the council working closely with the Mayors and Chief Executives Offices to meet our corporate commitment to transparent and effective decisionmaking.

Newham is looking for an experienced project manager to support our Democratic Services team. Working with our dedicated staff you will coordinate several key projects including:

Support to committee services including helping to organise our Annual Council meeting in May.

Organising the Newham Civic Awards judging and ceremony.

Coordinating induction and training for elected members.

Assisting the Head of Service with recruitment

Essential Experience Required:

Formal qualification and past experience of working in Democratic Services not required although experience in working with elected members is desirable.

What matters most is your focus on quality fantastic attention to detail and able to manage multiple projects with interdependencies and overlapping deadlines.

You should be able to work flexibly be customer focused and be adept at meeting demanding deadlines in pressurised circumstances.

Candidates should have been trained in the PRINCE2 project management methodology to Practitioner level or similar qualification.

An understanding of Local Government an advantage.

An understanding of the political context and environment.

Experience of successful project management at a senior level in a complex organisational environment.

Possession of a demonstrable track record of delivering results on time to a high quality and to budget.

A track record of leading projects without direct line management authority.

Ability to build effective working relationships with individuals and organisations within and outside the council.

Ability to articulate ideas well in written and oral communications.

Demonstrates a flexible and innovative approach to problem solving.

Ability to effectively manage conflicting priorities and to remain calm under pressure.
