Job Summary:

At the heart of our ambition is a commitment to improve how we communicate with residents from how we publish information so it is easy to find and understand to ensuring people are aware of key services and increasing levels of participation in Newham activities and events.

The Council s Marketing Directorate sets how we present ourselves to residents and position ourselves with partners winning the hearts and minds of local people with a clear Newham brand and narrative and motivating staff to become ambadors for the Council.

It leads our communications content research and partnerships work. In addition we are seeking to find new and better means to promote a positive picture of Newham on the national stage including to partners and potential investors.

Key Duties/Accountabilities

Oversee the development and regular review of the forward plan of integrated campaigns for the Council that is understood and agreed by senior leaders and members. Set strategic objectives and ensure that all campaigns are coherent integrated and supportive of broader council goals.

Be the brand champion responsible for developing safeguarding and enhancing Newham s brand ensuring consistent application of brand guidelines creating coherence across the Directorate and that of all internal and external communications across the Council.

Triage out of plan requests that come into the Marketing Directorate to ascertain whether they should be incorporated within existing delivery priorities or if they should be treated as activity to be delivered by the Service with advice from Marketing.

Provide professional expertise and advice to the Mayor Members the Chief Executive and senior officers on brand campaigns policy and research as required.

Oversee the planning and of the council s research programme in support of integrated campaigns to ensure we fully understand residents views needs and preferences.

Direct the planning and of projects that develop the Council s policy position to inform and underpin integrated campaigns.

Ensure relationships are built with key national regional and local government officials opinion formers and think tanks and oversee a programme of public affairs influencing in support of the integrated campaigns.

Essential Experience Required:

Experience of understanding of brand strategy and management is essential.

Experience of strategic campaign planning at a senior level is essential.

Experience of leading an organisationwide brand management and strategic communication function within a politically complex organisation is essential.

Extensive experience in developing and implementing largescale forward plans of integrated campaigns within a complex organisation ideally within the public sector or a local authority environment is essential.

Direct experience of developing and delivering effective strategies in at least three of the following disciplines: integrated campaigns research evaluation public affairs policy positions or partnerships is e.

Essential Qualification Required:

Educated to degree level or equivalent level of work experience at a senior level relevant to the field is essential.

Evidence of continuing professional/management development is essential.

Additional information to note:

Working hours: 36 hours per week

Basic Disclosure check is required for the role.

The role will require working occasional evenings and weekends to maintain service delivery.
