We are currently seeking a qualified freelance BSL Interpreter to join our team of professionals in providing high-quality interpreting services in healthcare settings across London.

The successful candidate will be responsible for facilitating communication between Deaf patients and healthcare professionals, ensuring that patients receive accurate and appropriate information about their care.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide BSL interpreting services in healthcare settings, including hospitals, clinics, and GP surgeries
  • Facilitate communication between Deaf patients and healthcare professionals, ensuring that patients receive accurate and appropriate information about their care
  • Work independently and collaboratively with other interpreters and healthcare professionals
  • Keep accurate records of interpreting assignments and maintain confidentiality of patient information
  • Attend training sessions and participate in continuing professional development opportunities as required

Requirements:

  • Qualified BSL Interpreter with relevant interpreting qualifications, including NVQ Level 6 in British Sign Language Interpreting
  • Membership of the National Register of Communication Professionals working with Deaf People (NRCPD)*
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience working as a BSL Interpreter in healthcare settings
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills
  • Good knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare practices
  • Fluency in British Sign Language and English

*Note: NRCPD is a regulatory body for communication and language professionals who work with Deaf and Deafblind people in the UK. Membership demonstrates a commitment to professional standards and ethical practice.
