Financial Controller







This is a remote position.
Position Overview:
The Financial Controller will play a key role in managing and overseeing the financial operations of Polar Insight. This position requires a strategic thinker with strong analytical skills and a handson approach to handle the daytoday financial tasks and support the overall financial health of the company. As a remote parttime role the ideal candidate will be selfmotivated organised and capable of working independently.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting:
- Prepare and present accurate and timely financial statements including balance sheets income statements and cash flow statements.
- Ensure compliance with UK accounting standards and regulations.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Develop manage and oversee the company s budget.
- Provide financial forecasts and projections to guide strategic planning and decisionmaking.
Accounting Operations:
- Oversee daytoday accounting functions including accounts payable accounts receivable payroll and general ledger maintenance.
- Implement and maintain accounting policies and procedures.
Cash Flow Management:
- Monitor cash flow to ensure the company can meet its financial obligations.
- Manage banking relationships and optimise the use of available cash.
Financial Analysis:
- Analyse financial data to identify trends variances and opportunities for cost reduction or revenue enhancement.
- Provide insights and recommendations based on financial analysis to support business decisions.
Internal Controls:
- Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the integrity of financial data.
- Conduct periodic audits to ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
Tax Compliance:
- Ensure timely and accurate filing of all tax returns and compliance with UK tax regulations.
- Manage relationships with external tax advisors and auditors.
Financial Strategy:
- Support the development and execution of the company s financial strategy.
- Provide financial insights and guidance to the management team.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Stay informed about changes in financial regulations and ensure the company s practices are compliant.
- Coordinate with external auditors during annual audits and other regulatory reviews.
Team Leadership:
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff if applicable.
- Foster a collaborative and efficient work environment within the finance team.
Systems and Processes:
- Oversee the implementation and maintenance of financial systems and software specifically Xero and ideally Zoho One.
- Continuously improve financial processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor s degree in Accounting Finance or a related field.
- ACA ACCA or CIMA certification preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting or financial management.
- Strong understanding of UK accounting principles and financial management.
- Proficiency in Xero; experience with Zoho One is highly desirable.
- Excellent analytical problemsolving and organisational skills.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly.
- Experience in budgeting forecasting and financial planning.
- Knowledge of UK tax regulations and compliance requirements.
- Leadership and team management skills.
- Selfmotivated and capable of working independently.
- Strong internet connection and ability to work remotely.
