Tasks

The Quantity Surveyor will provide commercial support for the delivery of various highways services, including cyclic maintenance and improvement schemes. Responsibilities include reviewing contractor pricing, ensuring adherence to contracts, and verifying the application of correct rates and agreed prices. The role will focus on client cost assurance, benchmarking cost data, driving efficiency, and achieving value for money. The Quantity Surveyor will work with the New Engineering Contract (NEC) forms of contract for Highways and Transport services in Cambridgeshire, collaborating with partners to deliver efficiencies. This role will identify collaborative opportunities, facilitate project groups, and drive forward efficiencies through collaboration.

The Quantity Surveyor will provide similar commercial support for highways services, including reviewing contractor pricing, ensuring adherence to contracts, and ensuring value for money. They will also work with NEC forms of contract and contribute to collaboration efforts.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • HNC in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or equivalent experience (Essential)
  • Degree-qualified or equivalent in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or Construction Management (Desirable)
  • Relevant professional status such as RICS, ICE, CIHT, or relevant industry qualifications (Desirable)
  • CSCS card, CITB accredited (Desirable)

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge and experience with Method of Measurements, especially in highways (Essential)
  • Familiarity with NEC forms of contract and current regulations and safe practices (Essential)
  • Understanding of ways to influence others, whether client officers, suppliers, or contractors, in commercial practices or contract processes (Essential)
  • Knowledge of various dispute avoidance options and routes to dispute resolution (Essential)
  • Industry knowledge of highway project construction and service provision (Essential)

Skills:

  • Commercial awareness in a highways setting (Essential)
  • Proficiency in using IT cost/estimating packages, financial systems, and Microsoft Office (Essential)
  • Excellent attention to detail and the confidence to challenge commercial contract matters (Essential)
  • Strong written and reporting skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly (Essential)
  • Effective communication skills, including the ability to adapt communication style for successful outcomes (Essential)
  • Negotiation skills and the ability to apply them internally, externally, and with supply chain partners (Desirable)
  • Collaboration skills and a positive attitude when working within a construction team on commercial matters (Essential)
