Tasks
- Formulate the Highway Authority s response to consultations on planning applications for medium and large development proposals.
- Agree on design principles for new development.
- Manage the work of the Transport Planning Engineers and Technicians.
- Formulate the Highway Authority's response on Local Plans.
- Work with colleagues to develop town-wide transport plans, including proposals for suitable schemes in those locations.
Responsibilities:
- Review medium and large planning applications to assess their impact on the highway.
- Analyze detailed Transport Assessments and identify necessary improvements to Suffolk's road and transport infrastructure.
- Manage the pre-application process for the area of work engaged.
- Manage own work and that of others (engineers/technicians) in a small team.
- Represent the Highway Authority at Public Inquiries, public meetings, Planning Committee meetings, and masterplan/vision groups as appropriate.
- Prepare and maintain relevant policies and procedures relating to areas of work.
Requirements
Qualifications and Professional Memberships:
- Relevant degree or equivalent.
- Incorporated or Chartered Engineer or equivalent experience and knowledge.

Specialist Knowledge, Skills, and Experience (Essential):
- High-level understanding of all aspects of highway design and construction.
- Detailed knowledge of section 38 and 278 agreement process.
- Significant experience in interpreting complex transport assessments.
- Excellent understanding of relevant Health and Safety legislation.
- Excellent project management skills.
- High-level understanding of legal and procedural context.
