Animal Alternative Technologies (AAT) is a recently founded biotechnology B2B start-up based in the University of Cambridge. Our mission is to democratize access to sustainable food and tackle some of the world s biggest sustainability and food security challenges. We are doing this by engineering a scalable, end-to-end Cultured Meat production system, which includes bioprocesses, software, hardware and raw materials to empower food producers all over the world to make their own cultivated meats tailored to local tastes and desired specifications.

We are a rapidly growing, seed funded startup backed by two of the word s leading foodtech VCs.

Tasks

We are looking for a Bioreactor Engineer with experience in bioreactor development, operation and optimisation to join our core team! You will be adaptable and able to handle a range of cross-functional projects in a fast paced environment. You are an independent problem solver who likes to take the initiative and enjoys seeing their ideas come to fruition.

Responsibilities:

  • Setting up, optimizing, and operating bioreactors.
  • Designing and building new bioreactors.
  • Planning, efficient execution, comprehensive analysis and presentation of bioreactor experiments.
  • Coordination of engineering projects.

Requirements

Essential Requirements:

  • Minimum Bachelor s degree in a relevant subject such as Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, or Bioengineering. (A PhD in a relevant subject is not essential but will be beneficial)
  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience designing and operating stirred tank bioreactors for mammalian cells either in industry or academia.
  • Practical knowledge of and hands-on experience in mechanical design and setup of bioreactors.
  • Mammalian cell culture proficiency.

Desirable hands-on expertise (two or more of the following ideally):

  • Design and operation of continuous perfusion within bioreactor systems
  • Induced pluripotent stem cell culture
  • Myogenic and adipogenic differentiation
  • Working with microcarriers
  • Fabrication techniques such as prototyping, CAD/CAM, 3D printing and CNC machining, electronic controller development.
  • Computational modelling of fluid dynamics, cell growth and other phenomena within bioreactors
  • Programming for bioreactors and sensors, and/or for data analytics.
  • Sourcing and procurement of materials and equipment for bioreactors
