Maintenance Assistance - Nightingale House South London







Introduction
Nightingale Hammerson is a leading specialist in the care of older people supporting specifically Jewish residents We have two care homes Nightingale House in Clapham and Hammerson House in East Finchley
As a General Maintenance Assistant you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our residents by maintaining our facilities to the highest standards
What will your typical day involve
In this roleyoull be responsible for reactive and planned maintenance covering tasks such as routine building maintenance basic carpentry plumbing works patch plastering and basic brickwork
Under the guidance of the Operations Manager youll execute reactive maintenance planned preventive maintenance and ad hoc repairs ensuring compliance with Health and Safety regulations and internal policies Your role extends to troubleshooting and completing repair/remedial works periodic testing of systems and responding promptly to maintenance requests from residents staff and colleagues
As part of a collaborative team youll work with specialist contractors and following inhouse training act as a Fire Marshal
Your commitment may involve occasional emergency callouts and attendance at internal and external training courses
Who are we looking for
The ideal candidate for this role should possess significant working experience in a similar multiskilled trade demonstrating proficiency in diverse maintenance tasks Additionally practical knowledge of general plumbing is essential In terms of knowledge a working understanding of maintenance requirements in buildings of different ages is crucial
The successful candidate should exhibit strong skills and attributes including effective communication and the ability to work with and for elderly people Furthermore they should be a team player who leads by example promoting positivity within the workplace The candidate should be a proactive problem solver capable of working independently with minimum supervision and possess good interpersonal skills both verbal and written Excellent organisational and time management skills are essential for this role Special conditions include being physically fit according to work requirements willingness to be part of the oncall rota when required and readiness to contribute as part of the onsite emergency response team
