Lead Data Scientist
Our client is searching for a Data Scientist to join in a leading role, to bring capabilities and resource to the team, and project manage their own activities. An internal data resource will work closely with the successful candidate to assist with the shipping specifics and integration.
The role will report into Operations Management, with key stakeholders in all departments as part of cross-functional teams.
Role Responsibilities:
- Rigorously collect, collate, and catalogue ever-increasing data points.
- Examine and engineer the structure of data storage within the company
- Analyse data to discover trends and patterns
- Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques
- Collaborate with business departments to identify metrics, guide understanding and gain insights from their data
- Work with stakeholders to creatively correlate data points within business units and across business units
- Present data insights using data visualisation techniques
- Understand and lead digital modelling either in-house or utilising third party resources for advanced projects (e.g. digital twins for vessels)
- Deploy resources systematically and transparently through effective self-project-management.
- Collaborate with the Fleet Performance Team to handle and develop vessel performance data
- Coordinate with different cross-functional teams to implement models and monitor outcomes
- Develop processes and tools to monitor and analyse model performance and data accuracy
Skills Required:
- Proven experience as a Data Scientist, Data Analyst or Data Engineer
- Degree qualification in relevant discipline
- Project management experience
- Comprehensive understanding of data types and data governance
- Relevant software and applicable data tool skills (Tableau, Informatica or similar)
- Experience working with and creating data architectures
- Ability to engineer and capture data within a data warehouse or data lake
- Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and concepts, and experience with applications
- Strong problem-solving skills with an emphasis on data management
- The ability to collaborate with and advise multiple stakeholders, including the use of data visualisation tools
- Analytical mind and business acumen
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Experience with Python / SQL or similar preferred
The Scope of Work:
The initial focus will be to establish a rigorous approach to the use of business and vessel data within the company, through the following steps:
1. Understand:
- Build a data map, taxonomy and ontology
- Define data flows, relationships and frequencies
2. Organise:
- Engineer and organise all relevant data available
- Normalise and cleanse the data
3. Plan:
- Design targets for the use of business and vessel data
- Define outcomes with stakeholders, including timeline
4. Implement:
- Select an appropriate data tool and onboard
- Create data streams for stakeholders
5. Insight:
- Analyse, develop, and maintain the feedback cycle
- Continuous improvement of data use and understanding
- Further projects
The ideal candidate will bring their own perspective to the vision and realisation of the initial phases. Experience with data taxonomy from a standing start is highly advantageous.
