Environmental and Sustainability Manager







Throughout OCU Group has been experiencing a sustained period of growth and expansion We are actively looking for an Environmental and SustainabilityManager based anywhere in the UK who will be responsible for implementing monitoring and working across the operational level to embed and work with the business as well a educate and mentor the business
This is an exciting new opportunity for an experienced Environmental Manager looking for a new challenge to come and join our HSEQ team The role would suit a proactive selfstarting individual who embraces challenges has a desire to make a positive change and be part of the environmental and sustainability journey in OCU
As Environment and Sustainability Manager you will provide specialist environmental support to our Group function with technical support for our operational account teams Using your experience in either the Utilities and/or Construction industries you will ensure that OCU effectively manage their environmental & social impacts As our Environmental Manager you will report directly to the Group Head of Environment and Sustainability and work alongside HSEQ Regional Managers This role will be based from an OCU office location with occasional regional travel and home working Specifically you will
- Monitor the environmental performance of the EMS
- Working with the wider HSEQ team and in particular the HSEQ Regional Managers and HSEQ Governance lead to deliver environmental compliance
- Working with the ESG Analyst to create Carbon and ESG plans and help implement them with Contract Teams
Duties and Responsibilities
- ISO ensure the documented system is managed and updated
- Generating Best Practice Guides bringing together industry codes etc and creating practical guidance for Contract and Project Teams
- Create a Group Audit and Inspection around ISO with the Group Quality Lead This also includes Regulatory Compliance
- Develop a Group process for Construction Environmental Management Plans
- Environmental technical support to the business
- Collation of Environmental Case Studies for working winning
- Input to Group Intranet (improved guidance and tools) and OCU eternal website content (good news stories latest initiatives) in support of Quality Lead and Group Communications
- Carbon Plans helping create an overall plan with the current focus on Net Zero by setting of SBTi
- Compliance Obligations review and make changes to Management System Processes and compulsory risk Controls update compliance obligations communicate requirements to operational Teams
- Update the Legislation Tracker which identifies all the relevant and emerging legislation impacting the organisation
- Maintain the business Risk and Opportunities Register which highlighted the business risk as well as opportunities
- Develop a minimum standards and best practice guide for project sites
- Review and provide guidance for Construction Environment Management Plans
- Identification of required environmental consents permits and exemptions such as discharge consents abstraction licenses and environmental permits
- Ensure biodiversity impacts are measured and the Contract team are aiming to achieve a netgain in biodiversity by working with the Consultants Client Designers and Contract teams
- Maintain own level of knowledge and competency in relations to environmental management including appropriate qualifications and professional membership
- The ability to thrive in pressure situations and to work on own initiative
- The ability to empathise and influence stakeholders and Contract Teams
- Excellent organizational communication and time management skills
Skills and Experience
- Degree or equivalent (in Ecology Zoology Botany Biology Environmental Science or Geography or similar/equivalent)
- Full Membership or higher of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment or similar relevant professional body (eg IEMA CIWM Env Soc IWEM)
- Prior experience of providing technical expertise to a variety of stakeholders as an Environmental Manager or similar
- A significant level of environmental management experience on major projects
- Thorough understanding of UK Environmental legislation
- The ability to develop and implement new working methods and initiatives that could improve environmental compliance across the business
- Working knowledge of relevant legislation guidance and standards specifically Auditing (Internal or Lead Auditor qualified) Incident Investigation ISO EMS and BREEAM Infrastructure
- A full and current driving licence
Desirable
- Environmental Masters or equivalent
- ISO auditor
