The Team
The
Research & Design team for iBoxx indices sits within the Global R&D Group. As the worlds largest resource for iconic and innovative indices, S&P Dow Jones Indices helps investors identify, measure and capitalize on global investment opportunities.
The Global R&D group is responsible for the conceptualization, design, and construction of S&P Dow Jones equity, sustainability & ESG, fixed income, commodities, volatility, multi-asset, and alternative asset strategy indices which serve as the underlying for index-linked investment products such as exchange traded products (ETFs, ETNs) and equity derivatives.
The team is comprised of experts in portfolio construction techniques and financial theories used to deliver innovative index solutions and analysis to clients.
iBoxx products span fixed income markets and include globally recognized benchmarks such as our branded index families including iBoxx and iTraxx, and our Markit PMITM economic indices. In Asia our indices include the award-winning Markit iBoxx ABF Pan-Asia, Markit iBoxx Singapore Dollar and Markit iTraxx index and the HSBC PMI indices. iBoxx is leader for bond indices used in exchange traded funds.
The Impact
You will collaborate with index clients to design and develop innovative new index solutions to meet investment objectives, including custom, benchmark, tradeable and strategy fixed income indices within S&P Dow Jones (S&P DJI).You will also contribute to the expansion of our fixed income product offering by helping build out internal systems, increasing the types of indices we can support and reduce time-to-market for new product launches.

The role encompasses the full lifecycle of index product development, from market research, idea generation, prototyping, client validation, product development, and coordination with other internal teams to ensure successful index launch.
Responsibilities
Support the development of new benchmark and tradable bond indices in conjunction with key index stakeholders
Undertake analysis of markets and data collection and conduct scenario analysis for the research and development of new index methodologies
Extensive modelling of index methodologies to produce index constituent list and weights, and to back-test results
Attend client meetings and conference calls alongside commercial teams to present the current thoughts and ideas of our Indices and to understand and manage client requirements
Write index specification guides
Index setup and calculation: develop calculation prototypes and test cases for new indices; perform test calculations and reconciliation of the results with clients
Quality control: daily checks and testing of index calculation and output files around the release of new indices
What were looking for
Essential Skills
Ability to think through a problem and break it into steps
Understanding of fixed income securities
Good understanding of the indexing space
Python, SQL, Excel
Ability to summarise complex algorithms without getting lost in the detail
Education and experience required
Bachelors degree or equivalent qualification
Intellectually curious, open minded and able to solve complex problems logically
A high level of attention to detail, focusing on the quality of projects
Articulate and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
First class communication skills written, verbal and presenting
Happy to collaborate with and support colleagues within the global Index Research and Design team and contribute regularly to group discussions
A high degree of awareness of the financial / resource implications of index design decisions
A keen interest in the developments and trends within financial markets in areas such as fixed income, asset management and ETFs
Highly motivated and eager to take the initiative and assume full responsibility for the delivery of projects
Creative and able to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Understanding of other asset classes including equities, FX and derivatives is advantageous
